I think this beats the fellow trying to make one Lotus out of Three.

The internet is a great source for finding & buying cars, got my wifes 2003 Altima 3.5 at a rock bottom price after much research. I found my Pcar on a fluke search after nearly giving up. I think the key is patience which ebay does not afford. I've heard many more horror stories than ones of glory coming from ebay purchases of autos.

I got Two Lotus (or is that Lotuses or Loti) out of Three

I've known of people in the Lotus clubs that can put Corvair stub axles on a Lotus.

I bought another one: http://tinotopia.com/blue_912.htm

This one is in much nicer shape. All the repairs I've had to do have been the kind you expect on a car of this age: replace suspension bushings, shift linkage bushings, turn signal lenses, etc.

The only unexpected and quasi-major thing that has happened is that the #3 spark plug blew out of the head one day as I was driving along. Fortunately, I was near my wife's office, so I just pulled into the parking lot there and made off with her car for the afternoon.

According to the documentation I got from the previous owner, this spark plug had parted company with the head once before, and it had been repaired with one of those steel sleeves and some loctite. Unfortunately, the loctite had been applied to the *spark plug* side of the sleeve, not the head. Hmm. Anyway, I wound up pulling the engine and taking the head off, and then spending a month trying to get the head repaired. I used the time well, fixing a bunch of other things that were easily accessible with the engine out of the car, painting the tin, etc., etc.

The white car has been sitting in my driveway under a tarp.

Ruf...my boss has just bought a second Lotus Europa...now his garage is happy.
Those little beasts are both fun and very frustrating to work on...and he has had me make several parts for him already (door hinges, latches, etc.)
The interesting thing....his attitude towards life has changed somewhat.
In the past , he rarely smiled....now he has the P-car grin.
I believe these cars keep us young...or at least feeling younger....and as Martha would say "and that's a good thing"...LOL

I hope it's flame retardant too! Loti (yep that's the plural) have a nasty habit of spontaneously combusting! We Brits have never been too good at wiring!

Here speaks the ex-owner of one burnt out Elan Sprint.....
