Anodising window frames
 

Hi guys,

I'm in the process of having my window frames re-anodized.
I've been told I have to remove any metal (other than aluminum) before the anodizing process.
The frames have some metal threads inserted which Il'' have to remove.
Do any of you know how they can be removed?

Use heat then press them out.

I’m not sure if the inserts are threaded in or not so forget what I said. I’m sure someone who’s done it can chime in.

The ones I’m looking at are off a mid year and They’re pressed in, not sure what year yours are.

not sure either, mine seem to consist of two parts

I’m pretty sure they’re press fit, someone will chime in.

Thread an 8mm bolt into the short side, tap with a hammer on the bolt head, they pop right out. Just make sure the bolt is threaded out the other side a bit.

First one I removed with a hammer but the rest I decided to push out using my vice (more control)

Where are you sending them to be anodized? What color clear/black?

Hi Gonbad, I live in the Netherlands so I’m afraid that the adres might not be of any help. I’ve been looking around for a long time to find someone willing to do the job. Polishing will be done by a separate company… I will keep you posted.
Originally I opted for chrome but several companies told me that chrome will not adhere.

If you still want the names, just send me a pm.
Oh and the frames will be clear anodized.

Spring TX ? You are in a large metro area with a whole lot of places to choose from. Probably don't need to send them.

A quick search says that Outlaw Anodizing, Caustic Customs anodizing, Arnolds metal finishing and Pro Edge paintball are all likely candidates in the Houston area.

google gives more than a dozen other places that offer anodizing.

The challenge is to find places that expect to do small batches instead of a large production run.
If the company has a gallery that shows bike frames, firearm parts, paintball or motorcycle parts, you'll be more likely to have luck with them instead of the places that show 100 production pieces all the same.

Although, you can be surprised that some production shops will be willing to work you in and at a reasonable cost, especially if they find the project interesting and expect it will be easy.
