Leaking Auxiliary Air Regulator (AAR)
I just completed a smoke test of my 82 911SC to uncover some minor CIS issues and found three leaks; 1 Cylinder Fuel Injector (easy fix), around base of pop off valve (more complex) and around the body of the AAR (was not from the hose connections).
Based upon some searching it looks like these AAR can be rebuilt/cleaned by drilling out the rivets and replacing with bolts. My concern is that the housing is leaking between the two halves at the seam...is there a seal that can be replaced or do I need to find a new one? Maybe take apart and put back together with some sort of sealer? Part # 0 280 140 218.44 ![]()

Yes you can drill rivets and replace - 4mm bolts I think.
Cant remember if there is a seal in there or not - but RTV would do it. There may be a thin section O ring. If so you could make one - get a larger circumference one of same thickness and cut to size. If you really want to get picky, slice the ends at 45 deg and overlap. Done. Alan

Thanks Alan for the reply. Since this part gets warm from the engine, what type of RTV would you recommend? Glad to see this might be fixable without spending a fortune on a new one or take a gamble on a used one.

The two halves are sealed with an o-ring. My AAR was leaking at the electrical connector. There is no seal installed there.

But the leak will prob be quite small, so the other benefit of cracking it open is to clean all the gunk off the sliding valve. Then you can get in there anytime you need later. Regards Alan

Here's a thread on the AAR which will show the internals.

I took the AAR apart and found that the o-ring broke which left a gap...this was the cause of the leak. Could not find an appropriate replacement so decided to leave it as is and re-seal carefully with RTV. Hopefully this will solve the leak.

You would be better to get a longer O ring, of same section, and cut to size. They are just O rings , after all.
That looks very clean in there. Must have a cleaner running engine than mine :-) Alan
