What are you guys using for RSR wheel/tire options?
 

I've got a 70 with a 3.2 that I am making into an RSR tribute and was planing on using 16" Braid wheels, but I cannot find 16" tires. It looks like Michelin TB15 or Pirelli Cinturato P7 will work with 15" wheels, but I like the look of 16's. Anything I'm missing? I've been googling for the past 3 hours and cannot find anything other than what I mentioned above. Thanks in advance.

for anything wider than 245 16 is a desert, there are wider but then the are either too tall or don't have matching f/r

go w/ either 15 or 17

My choice would be Maxxis RC-1 235/40 & 275/35 on 9 & 11

If you’re doing an “RSR” you need to do 15x9 up front and 15x11 in the back. Michelin makes the TB tires that fit and Pirelli has the more street friendly P7’s. None of this is inexpensive. Expect to spend $6k+ for the entire setup.

The Michelins are what most people like the best looks wise.
For me, they were too sticky for the street.

The Pirelli's were more of a "street friendly" tire to me and still looked great on the car.

your old car looks great Doug! I'm not worried about about period correct for my car, just want it to look good. 15" tires cost more, 17" wheels cost more, so they come out about the same ($7k or so). I've got big brakes, so 15's will require a very small amount of grinding on the calipers to make the wheels fit. I think 15's look better, but Singer uses 17's and they don't look too bad ;). I guess I have some thinking to do.

Another vote for going 15". They are the originals for an early RSR and look great. Also, as a point of interest, Braid will make those 15" in other offsets, if you ask.

Something I was thinking about for "correct" looking wide tires (15") with a good street pattern is the concept of having a set of tires grooved. There are a lot of slicks available in many compound types. Not sure about the cost, but there is a place on the west coast creating tire sets to order in whatever historic looking tread pattern you prefer. This was something I just stumbled on and don't have any really knowledge about how streetable or practical something like this is, but it certainly opens up the market to what's available in a size for a correct RSR if using 9" and 11" wheels. I would love to hear someone's feedback on this, if they've done this or had it done. Maybe that's just "show car stuff", though.

For additional comparison. I went with Lindsay Fuchs 17x9 and 17x11 with 255/40 and 315/35.

I wanted more tire selection, better handling tire, and more options for larger brakes.
