1973 sport seat will not slide

I have a set of sport seats that I have out of my car for several years. I am reinstalling them and running into a head scratcher. If I tighten down the the mounting screws the seats will only slide when I release the seat and tilt it forward. It will not operate when you are sitting on the seat. I then tightened the seat rails and loosened the mounting rail on the rocker and they would slide no problem. both sitting in them and out. What am I missing on the stupid simple project. I did remove the mounting rails and have them painted several years ago.
I believe the guy put them back together right but not positive-he was a hack.

Help

Why not remove the seats and take some pictures so that we can see what we are dealing with? It’s also worth giving the runner mechanism a good clean and grease, you wouldn’t believe how much muck builds up over the years that really slows down the free movement.

Can you tell if one side is still latched? Or is it both?
There is a bar or wire that crosses over. It may be an adjustment or alignment issue on the seat bottom.

I don't know about the early 911 sport seats. But on the GT3 seat we just put in my Boxster, the little "fingers" of the lever were on the wrong side of the tabs on the seat rails. If that makes sense.

Looks like I just needed to shim it up and it worked. Maybe bent rails
