Respraying the 89 targa, Recommendations
hi all, I have a schedule to respray the 89 Targa 3.2. Wanted to get your opinion to see anything I should be aware of besides surprise prices, Any items I should consider changing? I also sourced out a Ruf front bumper and valance with oil cooler opening, is it worth the replacement? Mine has the Whale tale? should I upgrade to RS or keep the original look? Any recommendation is greatly appreciated it. Color is Red

Hi Avahdani, well, given as prices have risen in the past few years, even a re-spray is expensive, unless you have any major rust issues. Hopefully your body still straight without no hits or major dings. Just make sure that your color is matched correctly, because I had a bit of an issue when I "refreshed" my 85 Targa years back, and mine is Guards Red. You have the Carrera tail or an actual Whale tail like the turbos? Anyway, that would be your choice, going with a RS, Duck or stay as you are, it depends what look you are looking for. I personally have a Duck tail on mine, but that is my preference. Again, hopefully all will go well with your re-spray, good luck!

How you want it to look is your decision.
As for the paint work, make DAMN SURE the shop is the highest rated paint shop in your area. Do the Porsche and other exotic car dealers send cars to them? If not, pass. I can't emphasize this enough. If you have to wait another year to get it into the best shop, wait. The vast majority of body shops do mediocre work. Then you will be disappointed, and eventually you will pay to have it stripped and repainted AGAIN. How much will that will cost you in dollars and time?
