Alternator Belt Question

I'm trying to install a new alternator belt on my 79 SC. I've made a lot of changes to the alternator, fan & housing though and am wondering if I need a different size belt. I purchased a new housing from Rennline, as mine was cracked. That required a new fan since the old fan was too small for the new housing. So, I purchased a new fan. Since I had a new fan and housing, I opted to purchase a new pulley wheel also. I got the black one from Rothsport. It required some grinding to fit onto the new fan, but I got it to work. However, when installing the new alternator belt I bought, I can't seem to get the wheel tightened enough to turn over the engine.

Initially it was turning over and I was working my way towards #1 TDC, but then it stopped around #5 and won't go any further and no matter how tight I get it, the fan will spin, but the crank does not. Any ideas? Did I change too much at one time and need a new belt given the larger fan/housing? I know I'm only supposed to use 4 shims with the Rothsport, but no matter the placement of the shims, I cannot get the crank wheel to turn any more.:confused:

On the plus side, my EFI conversion is nearing the point where I can finally begin the testing phase. :D

Does the engine crank pulley turn over by itself?

I had a loose a/c hose wrapped around the axle

I sometimes make things hard on myself by starting 20 different things at once. Note to self... stop doing that :D

With that, however, I am ready to start the testing phase of my EFI conversion!!! Woot!!!
