SSI"S and stock muffler??

I was thinking of putting The SSI's heat exchangers on my SC and was wondering what it would sound like with the stock muffler? or would it even work. I don't mind the sound of the car now but would like the extra HP. Can the stock muffler be used ?And would you still get the HP gains?

It was just smogged and they never even look anyway, Besides if I'm going to have start paying higher registration fee's it will be some vindication.
Thanks

Won't work. The SC muffler only has one inlet. You will need a muffler with 2 inlets when you convert to SSIs.

You can pick up a stock dual in one out for $100 or so (used of course) that is what I currently have. LOVE SSI's. The car now has a slightly deeper exhaust note and has more get up and go.

Go for it

I think I will start looking for a used set of SSI's and a duel in stock muffler. Like I said My SC has a nice note to it now, and with the SSI's it should sound even better plus the HP.
Where do you notice the power increase the most??
Thanks

You'll notice the increase from 4k and beyond.

You'll be stoked!

As noted above the power really comes on strong at higher RPM but you will notice the engine seems to spin up faster as well

If you are looking for used SSIs, you will need the thick flanged ones . . . .that is unless you want to replace everyone of those rusty coroded exhaust studs

I just put SSIs on my SC w/ a *stock replacement* '74 style muffler, the one you will need. It is a Dansk, actual OEM stock mufflers are pretty expensive. It is a little louder than stock, but otherwise sounds similar to my original stock muffler, tone under acceleration is great. Sounds like it is breathing/flowing really well.

I might be selling it though, to get a true OEM (Liestritz?) muffler. I want one quiet muffler and one sport muffler. Let me know if interested, it will be cheap.

Bob-

Dave at MS Road & Race had a new set of thick flange SSI's on ebay, no reserve for 649.00, which included the O2 sensor bung and SSI wrench. A pretty good deal. You should give him a buzz. Also I have a stock 74 dual-in/out muffer you are welcome to try.
