cleaned transmission and cover w/ baby powder

I had my transmission rebuilt 2 years ago, and gear oil began slowly seeping somewhere. Last weekend I detailed the tranny w/ wd40. Examined the tranny this weekend and it was still wet (thought wd40 would dry). Maybe, I didn't do a good enough job cleaning. So, this morning, I wiped it clean with alcohol and blew baby powder on it.

The seeping or leak seems minor, after the winter sitting , there was only a quarter sized drop on the floor. The seeping is difficult to locate. Looks like a few places where it might be leaking. First I got my scope out and looked at the vent on top and and verified with fingers that the hole in the vent was facing forward and dry. It felt dry with the fingers, but there was soot on top of the tranny and I couldn't see any evidence of Swepco 201 dripping from up top. There was some below the axel and on the tranny cooler seam, also, some on the seem near the front of the trany. It was dry where the shift rod enters the tranny, too.

Not sure the whereabouts of the leak and what to do if I find the leak like the proper way to install new gaskets.

Right now it's clean and covered in baby powder.

Will post picks in next post.

Gary

Can’t seed in the photos, but these are the places that were damp with gear oil.

Those were the pics. It’s hard to see the Seepage. Also, There’s a Finned Line from the oil cooler going into the transmission that could be a possibility.

I just can’t believe it might be leaking in more than one place. I did drive it this spring and thinking some gear oil might’ve blew from the point that’s leaking.

Anyway, I am going to let it set another week while I wait for my fill plug and Swepco. Yes, I need a new fill plug. I would’ve taken the plug out and checked the level, but the shop that rebuilt the transmission mess the plug up pretty bad.

But the transmission shifts like butter. It works great never worked as good since I’ve owned the car.

The plug got messed up when I took the car back to the shop right after having the transmission rebuilt. The seal on the shaft going from the shifter to the transmission was leaking. So they drain the transmission put a new seal in, Filled with Swepco and put the messed up plug back in.

Looks dry below the axel and where the tranny cooler attaches to the transmission. I took the pics last week. They were wet. It doesn't show in the picture.
