starter interference fit?
My starter came off the 915 bell housing with no trouble, and was functional when it was in.
However if I didn't know I was putting something back exactly where it was removed from, I'd swear this is the wrong part. As you can see, it's not really close, and it will not draw in by tightening the nuts on the threads. The pressure plate/clutch assy were not removed so I don't expect alignment to be the issue. ![]() The starter was removed to be able to separate the engine from the transaxle for cleaning and inspection of both, and some engine changes & tests. For anyone wondering about that stud, the other end is in a Renegade Hybrids transaxle adapter. Has anyone experienced similar? Any ideas?

Heck, I’m only 5 not 71!

The below photo shows the alignment of the starter solenoid to the engine. Granted this 3.0 engine is out of the car and on a Dolly. Compare this to your starter, if the solenoid is on the bottom side of engine then you put it in 180 degrees out.

problem solved
Thanks for the ideas.
On the slight chance the BH/Adaptor plate alignment might have been off a mm or so, I loosened the other three bolts then tried again. This time the encourager was able to get it to snug in and the nuts drew it in tight. It's also 15 degrees cooler today, so who knows? ![]() ![]() ![]()
