Question Muffler straps too short??

I just got a new Danks Sport muffler and two new straps by URO (90111115704)

but the straps seem too short, or maybe I am doing something wrong...

I cannot find any specific straps for this muffler...

did anyone have the same issues? code 90111115704 brings up the same exact straps everywhere...

the only different ones are

it seems they have a longer bolt??

A longer bolt is often the ticket.

Had the same problems a couple of weeks ago. I ordered 2 left side straps for a 3.2 which are 58cm instead of 51cm. No problem anymore!

Just went through this myself.
Ordered the correct straps.
The 'short' one is just long enough. The 'long' one needed an extra looong bolt. The straps were supposed to be stainless and came in Dansk bags. One of the straps was not magnetic, the other one was VERY magnetic! My supplier's response was that the magnet test is not definitive in ascertaining stainless steel.... that didn't explain why they were different to each other tho!

Isn't the right side strap for a 3.2 the longer one as it has to pass around the heater tube?
Also, I'm not sure your location of the bolt is correct... I normally have them at the rear, pointing up perpendicular to the ground.

I saw on ebay that someone sells a kit short + long for 3.2 models.

bottom line I'm baffled (muffled?) that Danks doesn't include the right straps!

btw, did anyone have problems with the braket/hanger? anything I should be aware?

So for OE size mufflers, it's plenty long enough for 1978-1983 SC cars that use late-version 270mm strap 930 110 365 00, and when stretched a bit should be long enough for 1973-1976 CIS cars that use early-version 298mm strap 911 110 365 01.

Several reviews of the OEM strap on Pelican mention the length of old vs new straps:
  • "New Straps make you realize how much the old ones have stretched."
  • "These hold the filter cover on much better than the original stretched out ones did. When you compare them to the old ones you removed they are shorter, because they're not all stretched out. Give them a couple pre installation stretches and they'll go on just fine."
  • "So glad I changed these, way better fit than the old stretched perished ones."

is this an AI-generated answer because it seems you didn't understand at all what are we talking about...

Ah, please disregard and delete, lol. Saw "too short" and immediately thought of a recent thread about the air box straps. Ooops!

We'll have engineering check the lengths of 901 111 157 04 (1965-1975, 1976-1977 S, 1978-1983), 930 111 159 00 (1984-1985, 1986-1989 Carrera, 1989 Speedster), and 930 111 155 01 (1986-1989 Turbo Carrera), and report back.
