'78 SC oil tank question

Hi all,

Having my engine rebuilt, so I removed my oil tank and had it hot-tanked and powder coated, and I'm getting ready to re-install it. Couple questions:

1. When I go to rinse out the inside, should I use plain water, water with a little Dawn soap, gas, or something else?

2. I also noticed something rattling around inside, and was able to fish out what looks like a small plastic bracket (see pictures). Any idea what this is, and how important it is to whatever it fastens to? It came out broken in 2 pieces:

Thanks...Steve

Impressive Jim, how many would have noticed that.
I rinsed my oil tank with mineral spirits.

You're exactly right. I saved my old sending unit and just checked it out. Still had the clip attached. I'll remove it and attach it to the "new" sending unit. That's why I save all my old parts, working or not. Thanks for the info.
