New to me '00 Cab...need cabriolet top help!
Hi,
Sold my '90 928 S4 and picked up a '00 996 Cab. Was in the 928 (and previous one) for 16 years and wanted a convertible so it was time to move on! Came with the hardtop on and didn't have much info on the state of the convertible system --- the top was not installed in the car but I have it. Appears to missing some pieces but I think I have replacements in the boxes that came with the car. I will have to confirm all of that. Anyway, took the hardtop off and of course there are issues. Seems like an electrical issue. Nothing happens other than a click in the control unit (996.618.111.03). I was hoping to be able to get it into the service position etc., to start assessing getting the top back into the car. Anyway, I will do some further research but thought I would ask for any input here as well! Cheers, Mathew ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

You need a Porsche tester, e.g. PST2/PIWIS, to read the top fault codes and do diagnostics.

Hi.
Thanks for the reply! Do you think that this tool (Amaz*n) would complete a deep enough scan of the roof codes to get started or should I take to the local dealership as they might be able to do a deeper dive and/or see something different? https://www.amazon.ca/FOXWELL-NT510-Elite-fit-Bidirectional/dp/B07Z5JS7B9/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?crid=1GDCN4ZC8VHVT&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.QXiOQtHGce7D0Y92wpYOkAkm0z9P-ky39GOAwwJzW_tlVUdzG169KeHezWPgIYnIU8Jk4Hw4mgU_h_m uIHaOb1WiLUD4ylXYXFX_PtwpKBCuFWD3q2REgf-PxpdDEDNIqehulO6lHjfGdKnyaTJtRzMgZGCVUZv8HC5MGm7WV wyxPIXF5gTp9VtM-zpQbls2X9fsd4nQk9ULOvDuiu8ygVwuU29nv_ZCb4EN8yl-wSWzYabaDRh19NRl2_jP4Gp8BDPXiGb7gYJKjNhV1aqrTS5H2W ACmHQuJvhd2tlqeYU.vGBc7iUE6a3utTAykwBVakW7kUvbYePW BryjMV_8OZI&dib_tag=se&keywords=durametric+diagnostic+tool+for+porsche&qid=1717514467&sprefix=durametric%2Caps%2C110&sr=8-1-spons&sp_csd=d2lkZ2V0TmFtZT1zcF9hdGY&psc=1 I took a better look at it yesterday and confirmed that the top frame bracket supports broke off (I will get some pictures to post --- and not sure why this happened). I have a replacement for one side which came with the car and ordered the other one and waiting on that. Things to note: * Side flaps stuck in open position * Can hear a click in the control unit both with dash switch and trying the key in the door. * Dash light for the top is on (even with the hardtop secured). Leads me to believe it thinks the top is open all the time. When you hold the dash button it flashes 3 times and pause, then 3 times, etc., Totally agree that scanning the car will help to pinpoint the problem areas. Any thoughts are greatly appreciated!
