MFI question

Hello everybody,

Iīm working at a friends car right now. Itīs a 2.4 MFI. The car has been sitting for quite a while and everybody who was working on it messed up the setup eben more. Now that we got in running, adjusted the butterflies and all rods itīs running quite good. We took it on the street with an AFR meter in the exhaust and found out it gets extremely lean as soon as we pushed the throttle down even a little bit.
Now we just found out the that lever at the mfi pump has no function. I can push it in all the way and nothing changes. Neither rpmīs, nor the AFR.
Could it just be disconnect inside the pump? If so which cover do we need to take off?
Also we noticed that during the process of adjusting everything, cylinder 1 injector gets less and less fuel from the mfi pump (itīs not the injector). Is there something like a filter on top of the pump under where the fuel lines are mounted?

Many thanks in advance, Malte

you may get more information over on the Early S Registry.

In case you haven't already, get a copy of the CMA manual :
Check Measure Adjust.
Invaluable info to help sort out the MFI. And, as KR said, go to Early S registry.
Not to mention the Univ. of Youtube..
Good Luck!

It is possible for the rack inside the pump (or other components for that matter) to freeze up from being gunked up or corroded. You can pull the side or end covers off the pump to examine them and see what may be stuck. Best off the engine of course, and remember to drain the oil from the pump first.

There's a check valve at the pump exit for the individual cylinder that could be causing the #1 cylinder to run lean, or a stuck piston could also be the cause. It would be well worth it to remove the pump and have it checked and recalibrated.
