What information are you trying to obtain?
They don't call anything a COA anymore. The PPS is closest to the COA, but no engine and transmission numbers. The other option is the Classic Technical Certificate (CTC). That one requires a physical inspection by a Classic-certified dealer and costs something like $500. That does give you the original engine and transmission numbers. https://vehicledocumentation.porsche.com/usa/ Mark

And there are only a few classic-certified dealers around the country.

Unless there’s absolutely certainty it’s a one-owner car. It’s just another selling point, to buy a car that has some significant repair and maintenance records can make the decision to get a CTC over a PPS for restoration provenance.
Then again, dropping $500 (vs $150 for a PPS) for a certified inspection and a factory record retrieval only to find out a previous owner swapped out the original engine/trans for a period correct replacement. FWIW - I’ve mentioned this before in another post somewhere: Keep a photo, documentation of your engine and trans number. In the event your classic car is stolen, insist these numbers are included in the police report. Chances are it will be stripped of the power train, whereas the VIN identifies just the shell of the car itself. Engines and trans become “property” often without any source of owner/origin as the data is stored separately in property files not necessarily stolen property. The engine/trans may eventually be recovered somewhere else like on media marketplaces or swap meets, chop shop, etc. |
