A shifter boot question

I have an '88 Targa. It came with a factory short shifter and a strange-looking boot/knob combo I've never seen on a g-body 911. It does look factory color coded since the interior is also dark blue. So my questions are these:

1. has anyone seen any stock cars with such a boot?
2. the shift knob does seem to spin around on a metal holder it attaches to. Is that normal or do I need to glue it to prevent it from spinning?

Interesting piece.

I don't see anything like it in the Porsche Exclusive catalog published in 1986. Would be interesting to see If anything like it was in a later Porsche Exclusive catalog, that included G50 shifter options.

Post pictures from the top of the knob and more detail of the lever, which looks very short with some sort of adapter attached (via set screws?). Is that a socket head cap screw on top of the lever?

Where are you located?

Also, do you have any pics of it installed?

Maybe '88 had extra options? It looks like the one from a 928 really but since color is coded to the interior it seems original to this car.

Basically the top part is a screw with a brass skirt that screws in at the top and acts as a spacer/extension. The middle part houses screws that hold the knob to lever itself. See pic.

Sadly - no. Took it off before making pics.
