Cross panel compatibilities?

Cross panel: 901 501 031 (also called front firewall panel, partition wall, etc)

I've never had the opportunity to examine an F-model and a G-model side by side in person. From looking at pictures online, it appears that the F-model cross panel is deeper, but that the leading edge of the fender is identical. If that's all it is, wouldn't an F-model cross panel work with a G-model?

What are the latching mechanism differences?
Would a longhood cross panel interfere with the impact bumper on the G-model?

Hi there, I swapped the panel on my '89 911 (which stock is 901 501 099 06) and the two are considerably different to match the long hood and they are not compatible with each other or the fenders.

This is all part and parcel of converting a short hood to a long hood and to do that conversion, you need to weld in the earlier panel, replace or heavily modify the short hood to make it into a long hood, change the latching mechanism, replace or modify the short hood fenders to make them long hood (parts available), plus of course the bumpers and such are all different.

its a big job, but there are threads all over this site with plenty of photos to see what you are getting into...

At the moment, I'm leaning towards keeping the impact bumpers. But since I have to replace the cross panel anyway, I was hoping the older version was still compatible with the newer bumpers and whatnot - just changed because now there's an A/C condenser underneath or whatever.

I guess when I think about it, it makes sense that the hood latch would be in a different location - No way to snake your hand under the hood and reach it if it were in the original location with a longer hood.

Oh well. the G-model cross panel is cheaper anyway.
