home powder coating,
Has anyone tried the home powder coating systems? Just curious how the results were.
The cost of having large numbers of parts done is much higher than the cooresponding tools. I have sourced a dedicated oven through my neighbors kitchen renovation. to keep this 911 related, I plan on having many suspension and engine parts done on my project.

So Jamie, are you open to powdercoating for the whole NoVA gang?

Jim, I may. I hear that Kurt M. has a system. I should email him and ask.
Ron, thanks for the contact. I will try later today.

A guy in our PCA region had a bunch of people over once for a get together with a demo of a system that he got for, I think $300 or $350 (oven extra, he got an electic oven from a garage sale just for...). He had an early 911, a late 60's Alfa and an early to mid 70's Ferrari 246, I think, that he had restored. He showed us several parts on the cars that he had powder coated and even coated a valve cover for an Al valve cover for the Alfa in a black Wrinkle finish. It all turned out very good. It smells really bad while you are baking the stuff, so I would recommend picking up a used oven that you can use outside or in your garage to do the baking. He had even done parts that were too large to fit entirely in the oven by putting half in, baking, and then putting the other half in and baking. It was pretty cool.

James, thanks for the links. Thats the same system I was looking at. $70 on ebay is very tempting. I shouldn't have read that it was so easy to do at home. the bead blaster is already in place.
I like the idea of the propane heater. You could just cover a cardboard box with Al foil to make a makeshift oven for larger parts. This would also heat faster than an electric oven.

The eastwood company sells a few different setups for powdercoating. They are as cheap as 170 bucks I belive. Depends on what you get though. They also sell the colors as well.
