Anybody update their stereo using Chinese-based Android Auto or equivalent?
So this is not for the purists that couldn't fathom a Chinese based radio in the German-made car...but recently I bought from Walmart an Android Auto head unit which is Chinese made and sourced from a CA intermediary by Walmart. And I put it in a Ferrari 360 which blends in with the OEM looks and works fantastic.
This got me thinking -- I use Aliexpress quite a bit for various items and I see they have Porsche compatible stereos which are also Android Auto and for a faction of a price ($150 - 350) what it would cost in the USA. Have any of you used them? Here's a picture for reference... Any of you using something like this on a 911 or equivalent? http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1718900741.png http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1718900977.jpg |
I’ve got one in my garage waiting to go into my newly acquired 997. All the reviews I’ve seen have been fairly positive. I could buy 4 of them for the price of the Porsche product, so I figured why not? :D

8581-A is the one I got, I think. You’re right, it’s confusing.

Rennlist has some threads on this topic. I've been following this one.
Pccm+ aliexpress clone review and pics / install Agreed, figuring out which one to use is confusing. |
On Rennlist in the 997 forum there are quite a few threads on adding carplay capability or android units to the PCM 3.0 units. I added the Mr 12Volt carplay unit to mine and am very pleased.
