Alternator issue...can the clock be the responsable?

Hello,

I've been fighting with the alternator since this morning - it does not charge the battery. I changed the Regulator, checked the alternator cables, changed the ground strap, rebuild the alternator . Nothing, it doe not charge the battery. Today, I decided to go to shop..I got the car and after a couple of miles the generator light went out. After a while I realized that the clock is no more working. Previously, when the red light was on (no charge) the clock was working. Is there any reason? Can these two things be related ? THX!

Does the dash light still come on with the key on/engine not started? The alt won't start charging without the 12v through the light to the D+/61 terminal.

Yes, light on even with the engine running; after a bir (2/3 miles) it goes out.

The draw in the clock is minimal.

The clocks are finicky and unreliable, if a battery it that dead perhaps there’s not enough voltage being supplied to it or just enough to jolt it back into operation… tap that bezel might get it going again.

Check belt tension.

Also, how old is the battery? Get a load test on it.
If 4 or more years old it could have dead cell or two and won’t accept and hold a charge. On a tender it may hold and read at 12.6v but soon as cranking just drains it below 12v.
