thermal-time switch
I'm in the process of re wiring my 1970 911T running Weber carbs and have been trying to find if the switch has any purpose for my set up.
If the switch is redundant without the factory air boxes can I just leave the switch un wired ? |

The thermo-time switch consists of a contact to ground for the cold start valve and a bimetallic strip surrounded by a heater winding. When the engine is cold and the key is turned to "start," the bimetallic strip contacts the ground contact and allows the cold start injector to inject fuel. When the key is turned to "on," that powers the heating element inside the thermo-time switch. As the heater warms the bimetallic strip, it eventually bends away and stops grounding the cold start valve.
https://www.type2.com/bartnik/thermo.htm On a 911 the TTS operates in parallel to the starter motor to inject additional fuel during cranking the engine to make engine start easier. You can conpare it with a shot of start fluid. Unless its heated it sprays up to 8 secs max then it stops not to flood the engine. Old original TTS were electromechanic switches. New versions now are fully electronic and more reliable. Also they inject ~0.5-1sec anytime the engine is cranked. If your car starts rightaway anytime no matter to wire it. Thomas

Thanks, I may just remove the switch and plug it for neatness. |

I only know my SC. At this position I've never seen a TTS on a 911 engine yet. There is in general the 35°C switch e.g. for CIS cars. The TTS normally is located at the rear left cam chain cover.
Check for your car if this position is correct according PET (Porsche Parts catalogue). Thomas

I do have 2 plugs in the chain covers but the TTS has been in the shown position since i purchased the car.
My question was can I just leave it unwired as its not connected to the fuel system as far as I can see. |
