Which Cylinder Gets The Hottest . . .
I am hoping someone with some long term experience with the 911 motors, or even better 930s, could tell me which cylinder gets the hottest under WOT.
I am installing a combo CHT/EGT guage and am trying to decide which head I should put the sensor in. My guess is #2 (center left for those of you unfamiliar with the numbering system) to to the additional radiant heat that cylinder has to deal with. |

FWIW, I hear #3 (fwd left) is usually the first to cook when something goes awry.
(It is the furthest from the fan.)

I have also heard #3, but then again I heard it here, so if we all heard it from one source and that source was wrong...
But it does make sense. ![]()

Well, #3 would certainly be the easiest to tap for the probe unless someone has a differing opinion.

I heard front left is hottest, due to bad cooling...but it's somewhat balanced by the fact that OEM 930 intake is badly designed and flows more into center, so A/F isn't equal for all cylinders...

hehe...that's cool but i think that mounting thermocouples in air-injection holes is even more slick

I've heard the guys at Norwoods say #3 and #4 on a 930.
Those two cylinders are the most inline shot through the intake. Those two cylinders also seem to fail more offen. That's been the case on two of my race motors.

You know, i never thought that teleporting was possible, to instantaneously go from one place to another. But after reading Amac's signature with two 930s , one being 750hp, i think scientists aren't studying the porsches close enough.
