Lightened Flywheel for 3.2 Carrera...

Hello All,

A friend of mine has a '88 3.2 Carrera. His engine is out for a clutch change ( stock rubber-damped shattered to pieces.. Haha..)

Been looking some, but no one seems to be selling a lighted flywheel for these cars. What gives?

Patrick Motorsports has a lightened pressure plate which they claim to be much better than a lightened flywheel set-up as they say the 3.2 flywheel can't be lightened much..

What do you guys use?

Thanks for any heads-up!

Sprint.

True -- unless you convert to carbs. Also check out Kennedy & Wevo & SRP.

Lookhere they may have something.

It is true you cant take that much weight from a stock disc flywheel though.

you can take some though

Will a lightened flywheel be more prone to chatter? From what I understand this typically comes with the territory and is not a very desirable trait.

The stock flywheel is pretty light... where you really save on the rotational inertia is with a lightened pressure plate. I have the aluminum RS pressure plate in my car, revs much quicker now.

Your friend should spend his dollars on the pressure plate, leave the flywheel alone.

my Aluminum PP is way lighter than the steel unit (as mentioned above). In Waynes new book CE has a line item on the machine work work for lightening the stock fly wheel. Its pretty reasonable. Any body done this? how much weight does it shave?

I have a Truman aluminum flywheel and an aluminum pressure plate in a 3.4-liter carbureted SC. Works absolutely normally. My wife's '03 Boxster is harder to move off a standing start without stalling it.
