Cleaned up the original ADS 300i's and Boston Acoustic C700 speakers in my car

took some time today to address the speakers on my new to me, dads old car. these were all originally installed back in 1986 by the original purchaser of the car before my dad got it. all four still work and I had no hint the rears were in this condition.

Fronts were a pair of ADS 300i's. Removed them from the car and unbelievably, their rubber woofer surrounds were perfect. Cleaned them the best I could, and I plan on selling these as a period correct, working pair. I think they cleaned up really well. These will be replaced by a flush mount 6.5 inch Infinity Reference REF-6532EX.

Cleaned up and "restored"

Next I tackled the rears. These were a set of Boston Acoustic C700's, again a combo woofer/tweeter, same footprint and screw pattern as the fronts. These are mounted on the rear deck where there used to be OEM 6x4's. The woofers foam was COMPLETELY destroyed and missing. Somehow, these still hit and sounded normal under daily use. I removed the destroyed 5.25 inch speakers and will replace them with Infinity Reference REF507F 5.25's. I will not reconnect the built in tweeter, as I have no interest in using their original electronics on the circuit board. I cleaned these up the best I could and will wait for the new speakers to come in tomorrow to mount them up. These were absolutely transformed. im using them as a mounting point just so I won't need to redrill new holes, or find grilles to cover the existing holes and marks in the vinyl. figured that would be easiest.

the speakers are still being driven by an original 1980's ADS Power Plate 100 amp under the passenger seat. ill get around to replacing that one day, but for now, its still working great. ill post up more tomorrow once the new speakers come in.
