Name the part! Win a prize!

Found inside the door of a 1986 911. Been through the PET to no avail. Anyone got a guess? Part of the door lock system?

Window mechanism spring sits in that retainer. It is swaged into the mechanism and works loose and falls out. Can be bolted back in.

Broken piece from the window spring regulator shown in the picture (center of spring). Replacement part is available from our Host.

I have a collection of these from my cars over the years. Windows still work (usually), but go up a little slower. There are some good threads on the fix, and I think Rennline has an upgraded part available. This is on my list for anytime I need to get into the door.

I was transferring items from car to car to include handles and mirrors. Did the "nut/bolt" fix and very glad I took the time to repair my broken spring retainer (or, whatever it is called).

Time consuming repair but windows function as they are supposed to - oddly it was very rewarding vs. other 'major' fixes.

LOL...by straight coincidence - just removed the grill off one of my 86's...

Actually was driving me nuts as I am adjusting valves on my moto, doing work on two old Land Rovers and swapping engines with the two Porsches...could not remember where I had seen that part!

Kindest Regards!

Erik

I cant believe youve been on the forum 17 years and you didnt know that yet. There is a thread on it atleast every month lol I guessed it just by reading the title. There was one or two in my door but the part wasnt broken so I didnt ask too many questions.

35 aircooled 911's parked in my garage as of today and another 50+ gone thru my hands over the last 20 years... and I've never had one of these break. Guess I've been lucky. Appreciate the help.

@917_Langheck PM me your address and I'll send you your prize.

I agree on the frequency. I'd say in the past 20 years - about 80% of the time the "what is this part" gets posted - it's the window regulator pin. I opened the thread expecting just that and wasn't disappointed.

Same. :D It's such an oddball part and it's always the one that turns up whenever someone opens up the door for something else.

Exactly what happened. We were having issues with the lock and assumed this was the part that had failed. Never even looked at the regulator which seemed to be working fine. Lesson learned.

Sadly, I immediately recognized that as well. Had to make that repair too. A real pain. to fix my windows as the PO had a glass out paint job...but did not put anything back right. I redid all the door perishables while I was in there. The small (opening) vent window seals were a real challenge.
