ignition switch issue on 80SC

My ignition switch has an issue where the catch that allows you to only engage the starter once after the key is rotated, so you cannot engage the starter with car running ,seems to be stuck, blocking starter engagement. It occasionally will work, but getting worse. Any ideas on how to best repair? thanks, chuck

Try this…
Wiggle the steering wheel, it might be the anti-theft lock mechanism interference.
Sometimes when I back into garage, the front tires wind up a bit askew and puts some tension on the steering wheel. Loosen that tension should get key to turn.

It happened to just few weeks back.
Exactly same thing... my key was stuck in start position even after starting the car. It is quite bad, repair it before you blow your starter motor. I blew mine and didn't realize it was ignition switch.

If the key is stuck, it may force the starter to keep running even after starting the flywheel.

Ignition switches are cheap ($60 to $100) while starter is $200+
Easy to replace as well..

Can you tell me what year is your 911? Mine is 70 911 T. Was quite easy to remove the lock cylinder and swap the ignition switch. Not sure how 911 SC's are..

You can ping me if you need more help.. happy to help via email or call.

FYI, You can try to repair your old switch, it can be just some gunk and can be cleaned out. But you have to be careful to remove it and put back all parts together.

Might consider replacing before you hog out you ring gear on flywheel. Then you’ll have to drop your motor. Ask me how i know

my car has the crazy expensive(1000 dollars) ignition switch with steering lock. I may try replacing the electrical component 60-70 bucks and see if that fixes it.
