In my car I'm about to tear out all the ductwork in the frunk and re-plumb each item directly to the vents with a Y or two. Deleting the fresh air blower+housing and the sliders from the dash so the system will be simple. AC on? air comes out half the vents, heat levers pulled up=hot air out the other vents. But my car is TMU and already modified to some extent, maybe you want to preserve the original operations. My thought being all this BS - flappers, T's, etc are adding drag, and the more time the air spends in the frunk the less effective it is at cooling you down.

When I installed the AC in my '81 SC that did not come with factory air I had to add the entire aftermarket vent system from the blower to the dash vents.

@TastyReuben That is certainly a consideration! Steve, I have also been looking for an under dash piece but they all need work it seems or they are ridiculously expensive and still need work.... I also have a massive factory under dash plenum in the way which I see you didn't have or removed? This whole exercise is like swimming up stream against the stupidest thing I have ever seen on a German car! Oh well. Thanks

A little more investigation and I do not see a way to fix this current system without going the route of EC900 and Bucketlist. This pic shows the right side aftermarket air distributor which is a Y and on the back side it is connected to the center vent and the front side to the R air control box. The cardboard laying there I used to block off the open side and I'm getting plenty of AC air to the center vent, so good. But the only place the remaining air is coming out is either the defroster vents or the 2 vents under the air control boxes controlled with the original fresh air or heat levers. I might connect hoses to the outlets under the air control boxes but by the time I connect these and rout them I'm thinking they will be too low and in the leg area, maybe while shifting?

Now to find a piece for under the dash air distribution..... Classic, located near me, has 2 vents in their kit that will work but they do not sell them separately. I may go over there and beg.... If anyone has seen those for sale somewhere I would appreciate a note. Here is the link to their system,

I actually bought the center vent and once I had it realized that it required the factory bow tie vent which I do not have. All of his vents require the factory AC system ducting.

Thanks

Update, I removed the outside air system Saturday and found they botched open the metal for the aftermarket system, that's a shame. Haven't decided on a plan to repair it even though it will not matter with the factory duct parts I have coming. So any thoughts short of a trip to the body shop appreciated!

I have collected some pictures off the forum where the bow tie vent sits in the plastic box under the dash so once I pull the evaporator lines and pull all of the aftermarket box out I plan on drilling a pilot hole from the frunk and then use my dremel tool to make the final hole. I'm going to use the Griffiths center vent kit in this spot.

I am a little lost still on the side vents and where the hoses to them should be routed. It seem on the drivers side it happens in the open under the frunk but the passenger side connects below the metal so I may need to cut a hole in the plastic box under the dash to rout it? Any ideas on any of this would be great.

I am going to update this thread just a few more times for a conclusion to this. The pics show the progression from disassembly thu assembly and then a test. I got from DC Automotive the factory ducting pieces and the 2 small hoses for the side vents hook up. After cleaning everything in the smugglers box I installed the bottom and upper tubes and then came the big question, would the aftermarket SPAL fan connect to the factory tubing. With a little effort and some wood blocks it fit, YEA! I still did not have the left side vent connected but I got in the car, turned on the fan and the amount of air coming out is amazing. I always thought that the only good thing about this system was that the air flow was tremendous and it is even better coming out of the center and no bow tie outlets. The next test, once the motor is back in, is to see if the system can keep up with the fan?

I bought just the center vent add from Griffiths, but as I had read on other threads I'm not sure I'm going to install it. The air coming out of the bow tie duct is great and wide for both occupants to feel it. So for now it's staying in the box. As for the side vents, the amount of air coming out of them is great and there is no need for the Griffiths vents there either. There is actually so much air volume I do not seeing it being left on high for very long regardless of the temp. Be a fun test at 100 degrees......

Next is get the motor in, charge it and see what it does. BTW, when I disconnected the freon line to the evap coil it still had a charge from 5 months ago so the leak is small which is a nice plus for now.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1732715372.jpg

The air coming out of the factory "bow tie" is a decent air flow, to your feet. My feet are last on the list to cool, I want air on my face and torso. The Griffith's center duct can be aimed. If you don't have a passenger, all that air is blowing on your right leg and torso. I usually have iit blowing straight out to the center of the car. That swirls around and does not freeze your leg, and it cools the area where you face and arms are. Much more effective than cooling me feet.

The good news is you can use the center vent at any time. I love mine.

While driving it is easy too reach down there and adjust where the air is blowing. My AC goes cold, soo after a shoort time, just the center of the car is just fine. This photo is from when I removed my center console too replace the shifter bushings, and repair the leather gator on the shifter. It looks lots better now.

I also 3D printed a water bottle holder that works great. I painted it to match the interior color.
