ignition swith - sometimes it turns sometimes it don't

Can't find this problem in another thread. On my 88, sometimes the ignition switch will not turn, as if you are using the wrong key. You stick the key in and can not turn the the ignition. All keys work fine in the other locks and the steering wheel isn't locked. Any advice would be helpful.

move the steering wheel around a little until you can turn the key.

I have the same porblem ocasionally on my 86. I believe it means the tumblers are on their way out. I put some dry graphite powder in mine, and it seam to help. Now it only happens once or month or so.

I had that problem, infact I could pull my key out while the engine was running. I got a new key by giving a porsche dealership my chassis number and the factory cut me a new key off their records.

Try some light machine oil. A few drops on the 1st half of the key and then run the key in and out of the switch a few times. Repeat if not smooth. Wipe/key and watch the excess oil getting on your clothes. Solved hangups on my ign switch without replacing the whole assy. I now lube this way about once every two years; its been 5 (maybe 10) years since the mechanic said R&R the whole thing.

When my 82 does that, I pull the key out a hair and it works.
