Should I keep the BBS wheels or go back to Fuchs?
I bought my car in November and absolutely LOVE it! However, it has 7" BBS wheels on it. I'm trying to decide if I should keep these wheels. They are in great shape and I've not seen other early 911s with these wheels on them. I've also grown to like them. On the other hand, I'm a bit of a traditionalist and really like the black and silver Fuchs. Luckily for me, I got the original Fuchs from the previous owner. They are in bad shape but I'm sure it's nothing Al Reed couldn't correct. My question is, should I keep the BBS wheels on or refinish to black and silver (not polish) the original Fuchs? What do you guys think?
Thanks http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploads/IMG_0661.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...0677 wheel.jpg |
sell the bbs wheels to offset the cost of getting the Fuchs refinished.
|
Although I am now a firm believer in polishing, the anodized fuchs would look much better than the BBS you have now.

ditto

Fuchs all the way! The BBS don't do your car justice.

I think the BBS look cool. Get the Fuchs refinished and keep both sets, one for the street and one for the track. You may not be on the track yet, but if you decide to getting another set of wheels can be pricey, and so can wearing out your street tires.
PS, you're like me, you need to lower that thing. |
David,
After seeing (and driving {giggles like a girl}) I'd have to say I really like the BBS's in black but it's an longhood. It really deserves the fuchs. Keep the BBS's and slap them on just for a change or use them as track wheels. Steve you beat me to it. |
Go with Fuchs.
|
I think they are kind of "retro-cool" without being TOO retro.
Just my take on it, though. |
I know I'm in the minority, but the bbs look good on your car. Fuch are great (and common), but what's wrong with being different? Be unique!
Traditionalist don't hate me. Just my opinion. |
Oh, make sure they mount the wheel weights on the inside this time (where you cannot see them).

fuchs

im diggin those BBS's
|
I like the BBSs. If I weren't thosands of miles away I'd try to convince you to go with the Fuchs and sell the BBSs to me :)

Important question: Which set is lighter?
And which is easier to clean? |
Easiest question all day: Fuchs.
|
I like the BBS on your car - but the set I had (non P-car) were the absolute bugger to keep clean. Tha would be motivation enough for me.

Been there, done that. Loved the BBS wheels until I got the fuchs. See for yourself.
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploads/DCP_0699.JPG http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploads/P-car.jpg And I would keep the BBS wheels. I sold mine for about $500 and now I'd love to have them for a set of autocross, DE wheels. JG |
Those look like the BBS wheels I sold 2 years ago. I sold them to put Fuchs back on. I like 'em, but nothing looks better than fuchs on that body style. I should have kept the BBS for the track, as they are very durable. By the way, is your car set a little high?
regards and have fun, |
At least the BBS wheels aren't the gold ones. Go with wheels Porsche designed for the car.

I vote BBSs
If you like to do something special, follow me. My BBS wheels were the gold ones. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploads/BBS3.jpg I didnt like the gold. So, I removed it. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploads/BBS5.jpg Then my friend shaved them in lathe. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploads/BBS6.jpg And after polishing and painting they look now totally new. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploads/BBS7.jpg |
WOW! Thanks for all the great suggestions. I think I will keep both. I've heard that the BBS wheels are VERY stong and would make great autocross wheels. That alone is a good reason to keep them, but I also like the idea of having something different. Good suggestion about the wheel weights Stone43, thanks.
Several of you noticed that my car looks a little high. Right now it is, but with so many other projects I've given ride height relatively low priority. Since buying the car in November, I've completely redone the interior. It was a mess! Griots Garage clay, "best of show wax" and LOTS of elbow grease brought the paint back to life. I can't tell you how many hours I've got in the MFI system but I've finally got it running pretty good (thanks Tim) -- still a little rich however (the nature of the beast?!) I'm currently saving for a front sway bar and Bilstein HD shocks all around. In about a month I'll put on the Bilsteins, turbo tie rods, new bushings and the sway bar. Then lower the car and have it aligned. It ought to look and handle MUCH better then! North Coast, your car does look much better with the FUCHS. I love the black and silver look. I'm not so fond of the black and gold look. I think you made the right choice. Bill, I've never liked the polished look (usually it looks to showy) but after seeing your car I may change my mind. Your's looks fabulous!! Timo, what a great project. I completely agree that the black looks much better than the gold. What is the emblem on your new center cap? SmileWavy |
