Old scams never die
The scam discussed in the thead shown below is alive and well. Fortunately, due to this board, I knew about it. The skinny: email arrives making an offer. Buyer says that he needs to send a check for more than the purchase price, and seller is to return difference. Buyer's check is bogus, and seller's check is not.
Meanwhile, the Ducati that was at the center of this episode is still for sale, and I lost only some time and a little faith in humanity. -Scott http://forums.pelicanparts.com/show...threadid=101579

I had this very same thing happen to me, and thanks to this board I was able to keep it from happening. Once I started asking the guy questions, and trying to get him to contact me via phone, I didn't hear from him again. I was going to try to get him to send the check and turn it into the autorities. Good to hear you avoided it also.

You know, it just dawned on me: GW has pledged $15B to Africa - I wonder if he fell for one of the Nigerian scams...
