Hello

Can someone please recommend a good paint to touch up the rear tail lenses?

I had some house oil paint at home, wont stick.

Any of those you have there will do as theyyall enamels. If it concerns you, pick one specified for plastic.

De-gloss the backside of the plastic, maybe some 800-1000 grit sandpaper. A lacquer will have decent bonding, as will formulations for plastic where primer can’t be used. But there is a black (flat) primer available (DupliColor or Rustoleum) in rattle can since you’ll be spraying the back side.

Agree with this, but don’t see the need for a primer as that will be the outward facing surface color as it’s being painted on the backside.

Clean all areas required for painting, mask all areas not wanting to be painted, then apply a couple of light to medium coats of SEM 39143 Trim Black. Ultra Trim Black is too modern for our cars, so skip that. The black paint, while a semi matte, will work fine, especially if you polish up the outside plastic surface. After spraying, give it an hour or so while you clean up all your bulb contacts and the light boxes, then fit up with new rubbers dusted with a bit of talc. I had great results with this process.

Paint

Thanks for your input, i already ordered the other paint from amazon.

Im having a difficult time removing the old black paint. I think im just going to clean it up and paint over it.

The tail lenses that i have have these “bubbles” and show through the black paint on the outside even though the paint is not brocken through on the other side.

I will paint over the old paint that is difficult to remove and hope it looks alright

SEM trim black in either spray bomb or if you have spraying gear, just use your touch up gun.

I did my rear grille, front grilles and front signal light in about 3 hours. It's very durable.....just make sure to scuff sand and degrease before painting.

May not be most ideal, but “OPI” brand black nail polish that my wife had worked great and is still looking new a few years later. My lens were in similar condition to the original post, the small brush makes application very easy

Scrape off the old flaking black paint with a plastic pry tool. I used a black paint pen like shown above with great results.

I painted mine with Testors. Just wiped off the loose paint, wiped down again with a wet cloth and painted over the rest. Worked fine.

Painted

Well, i applied a few layers of paint. I was worried at first that the paint seemed oily and not sticking to the clear plastic areas that lost all of the old paint

Looks ok, but really hard to tell until I remove the masking tape and take it outside and see if the sun shines through the paint

Well, it looks much better than before

It has these air pockets, under the old paint

I dont mind, gives it that more original patina look
