I've been asked to look into producing some carbon fibre style rear reflector panels to replace the existing ones. If there is an interest I will invest the time and money to produce a set of molds to fabricate the carbon panels. This is what my company does.
They can be produced in Black, Red, Yellow or Blue! The cost is unknown at this time but I'm guessing in the 200-300 range. If enough owners express interest I'll go ahead with the project, what do P-owners want? Jack |

Somebody beat you to it. I can search my receipts and find out who, but I bought one recently--he's on this forum--and it was way less than $200/$300. Can't remember exactly what the price was, but I'm not _that_ crazy.
They're reasonably nice pieces, with the studs integral, though it took me several sessions of filling and priming to get rid of the tiny C/F pits. Don't know why you'd want to produce them in Crayola colors, anybody who's going to do this is going to want them body color, not "yellow." In my case, I shot the panel with Glasurit blumengelb. It comes unpainted, uncolored, I suppose some playas will leave it that way just to make The Carbon-Fiber Statement.

Yeah, you're right...I didn't realize I was getting the last of a limited edition. So maybe Glasfibre should go for it, since I should think there's a market among people like me who think shouting P O R S C H E !!!! at everybody behind you is a bit much. But I would really recommend leaving them carbon-fiber rather than colored: the colors will match nothing, while natural carbon-fiber is at least attractive on its own, to some people.

Considering the P O R S C H E is pretty subtle, and the only other badging is Carrera on the rear lid and the crest up front, I don't think anything is too ostentatious on my '84 with regard to badging.
I think the entire car pretty much SHOUTS Porsche, however.

If the price was much closer to 200 rather than 300.
If it is a direct bolt on, hardware included, no fitting required. If you could find a way to incorporate the rear foglight. (which would be difficult, I guess) Then I would be tempted to buy one.

Ed, you have a different definition of "pretty subtle."
Yes, the entire car shouts "Porsche," but only to people who know what it is. That red billboard makes sure everybody else knows. As far as that goes, I've also removed the trunklid badging and next time I paint or replace the hood will delete that badge too... Geronimo, understand that there is no way to "direct bolt on" that panel, at least on SCs. You have to remove the muffler to get at the fasteners, for the ones that have conventional nuts like mine.

My car, even with the shadow Porsche stock on Carreras and has no extra Porsche badging, but I still feel it screams Porsche

I think it depends on the year, the earlier reflector with the black writing is pretty obvious. The hologram one like Byron's is a lot more subtle. I just assume that everyone thinks I'm a prick for driving a 911 no matter what it says on the back.

Here's an idea, what if glasfibre got together with mikez and offered the panel with reflective (PORSCHE) lettering. In this way, you get the CF look aswell as the abilty to show off what you are driving.

hmmm. . .seriously now; how much weight will a CF panel buy, over a the OE plastic? By the time you put in mounting bosses and hardware, it's not going to be much.

Hey Willtel, That's a beautiful car! Which blue is she painted? ![]() Oh, you're right, people think that about us whether we have badging on the back or not. I experience it every time I drive my SC. Following too closely, slapping around me to pass on the interstate... the list could go on and on. |

I'm looking into providing panels with or without the porsche logo molded into part. I would like to be able to provide any logo that the customer would like on there rear panels, working on this concept.
