77 targa restoration - part advice

Hi folks,

I'm a first time poster so please be kind to me. I've recently joined the world of older Porsche, also owning a Triumph Stag.

I have just started a restoration project on a 77 Targa 2.7 RHD with 88k miles. Well actually a restomod as the front wings were a rust mess which gave me the opportunity to backdate to an early 70s car. I'm working with my trusted guys on the bodywork (and will not be DIY for most things as I lack the time and probably most of the skill). We are now moving forward on some other aspects. I have some initial questions which I would value some advice about. We are working iteratively to figure out what really needs work and what doesn't. Happy to share details and set up a post detailing the progress if there is interest.

So far we have removed the engine and the gearbox. The 915 gearbox needs to be rebuilt, the changes 1>2 and 2>3 are horrid. We will send that away and I have taken advice from posts already here for specialists. We were worried about engine studs but having tighten things up and pressure tested a few times, hoping that engine won't need a rebuild for now.

We are stripping the car to do the bodywork and repaint. I've bought the required bodywork panels (Dansk), but I now need to buy new front lights, front and rear lenses, various seals, wing mirrors, bumper chrome and bumper rubber items. For these items I would like to balance quality and cost. I'd be grateful for people's opinions on:
- Porsche OE parts vs quality aftermarket items
- where best to source the former (I assume Porsche centre with discounts) or the latter (I am uk based, but also looking at some of the German suppliers).
- I am also aware of the Design911 packs using their own brand OE Match Classic or Classic Line supplied by Heritage and others. Any views?

Many thanks, Paul
