I've tried You-tuber "Mikes Restorations" method using an old modified speed-borer without success. There has to be a simple way - short of taking the assembly to a machine shop. Thanks again for any suggestions.

Force the spring into an arc within the housing and start a punch in one side and the pin in the other, push the spring straight and tap the pin through.
