85 Carrera heated windshield washer nozzle removal??
Hi gang!
Did the search, and the consensus was to break them off- but most of the replies were from SC owners. These are heated- what's the trick? BTW am taking the car apart for paint. Thanks

i have a set somewhere which i could dig out and take a pic of, but i don't remember what box they are in
![]() i could find them tomorrow if no one has an answer for you, there's 2 retaining tabs (left/right of the nozzle) which need squeezed in if i remember correctly.

thanks bell, I'm going to look at it again in the AM. I have the blower fan and ducting out now, so I should be able to get a good look at them now.

On my 85...it seemed to be simple matter of pushing/pulling forward or back...while trying to lift.... came right off !
It has the expandable feet type attachment that requires "pinching" the protrusion together to enable the squirt to be removed. Wil

Ok- got them out- or at least out of the sheet metal- you push them toward the rear and they pop out. Now- for those who have done this before- is there a plug for the heat wiring on the driver's side? I found it on the pass. side, but on the driver's side the harness goes into a wad of wires that go under the vac booster, and I can't see a connection.
Thanks

Can you explain this with more detail? the base under the sheet metal gets pushed back?
Thanks mine are the heated ones also, how did the mirror removal go? TIA

No, the nozzle above the cowl gets pushed toward the windshield and then you can push up the front end of the nozzle (side toward the trunk) and coax it out of the hole. Getting the wires disconnected can be a pain, but once you do the first one, it will make complete sense. I can't take a photo right now, but picture the nozzle base as being spring loaded by a plastic tab pushing the nozzle toward the front of the car, and the front of the nozzle has a groove in it the thickness of the cowl sheet metal holding it in place.
I hope I explained this well enough....

Think of a plastic plug that expands once pushed through ( from above). You feel around underneath the sheet metal that it sits on...and "pinch" the expanded portions back together....like a drywall anchor of sorts....then lift up / back.

Thanks for the replies, but I still don't get it. The plastic under the cowl is larger then the top, is this a two piece unit? the pic for a new one in the catalog is hard see. Any pic's out there on this thing?
TIA

OK let me try again. For the sake of this procedure, back is toward the rear of the car, forward is toward the front of the car, regardless of where you are standing.
Use your thumb to push the nozzle back by pushing on the nozzle above the cowl. You will feel it move. At the same time, push up on the front side of the nozzle from under the cowl, the front edge should come free. Then push the nozzle toward the front and push up from under the cowl. It should now be free from the sheet metal. I know it seems weird when looking at the photos- I had the same problem. Even if you break one they're not that expensive.

87 Carrera heated Washer nozzle removal
Expanding specifically on what Will says above and including a couple of photos. My nozzle underside is not like the other photo above at all.
![]() ![]() I tapped on mine with a wooden block back and forth till they sort of broke free from wax/dirt and they move about 1/16" or so. There is a stiff but slightly flexy tab on the front and female notch on the windshield side. The windshield side is what pops up. I could just get a hand underneath to assist but one came up easy, the other not bad either. The tapping is what did it for me, then just pushing with finger tips. I'm thinking I'll remove the heater wires (probably not working anyway) and continue using anti-freeze blue stuff anyway. None of my modern cars have heated nozzles, all work great. Next is removing hose from the drivers side to blow out a tiny spec of sand inside that nozzle.

yes there is a connector on the driver's side...just follow the pigtail from the nozzle.

BTW, this removal method worked just slick for me. They rock up and pull right out.
Of course, need to un-crimp the hose connector, also. ![]() |
