Quarter Window Chrome Conversion
Hi,
I'm rebuilding a 1980 SC and backdating it. I've purchased chrome rear quarter windows and have them rebuilt now. However.. I just realized that the mechanism for attaching the older windows is different than the 1980 SC ones. There are tabs that are supposed to go into the pillar and then screw down. So I think I either have to figure out how to remove the welds from the frame to expose the recess for the tabs to go into OR I might be able to forget about the tabs and use a different way to secure the window? Any advice or help much appreciated! Edit: I did find a couple of posts on this although I'm not looking to have pop-out functionality Photos of current car door pillar and one of the windows.. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1726783166.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1726783166.jpg |
I would install them the way they’re designed to be installed otherwise you’ll have issues. Windows something you really don’t want to cob otherwise wind noise and water leaks.

Thanks DP. I know that you can remove the black coating from the "regular" SC window surrounds, although it wouldn't be as bright as chromed items that I have with my door frames.
Will finish building the movable windows I purchased from eBay (as I already have the hardware / pieces for the movable windows), but install the "regular" windows for now to allow me to continue with the build. |
Removing the spot-welded revised steel piece on b-pillar should expose the classic 911 stamping that has the two slots. You will need to drill and tap holes afterwards
