3.6 run problem
1982 with a 93 3.6. Just put a new fuel pump in when it warms up it chugs and dies, like a choke problem not sure any ideas? Installed 3.6 years ago always had this problem. It’s time for it to see the world.

I just realized when it’s acting up after I start it, if I shut the key off and restart, it runs great for a few minutes then I have to restart again.

Check the cylinder head temp sensor.

Any chance the is a choke type problem?

After you check the cylinder head temp sensor, unplug the MAF and see if it runs. On my 3.6 I had a bad MAF and when we started it, it would run extremely bad, very rich, fuel dripping out the tail pipe, missing and stumbling. Unplugged the MAF and it smoothed right out. Replaced the MAF and all was good.
Also, sounds kind of fuel related. Are you pulling power for the fuel pump through the DME? We had that issue too. Initially wired fuel pump like a regular old electric fuel pump. Car wanted to start because while cranking it got fuel but the DME did not know it was getting fuel and would not allow the engine to run. Wired the fuel pump correctly, through the DME and problem solved. Good luck. |
I just put a new fuel pump in it. I gotta see if I can find my wiring diagram when I put the 3.6 in my sc. that would kinda make since, the cold start runs ok then it’s like it runs out of fuel or the choke will not shut off. I’m sure it doesn’t have a choke.
