Are screens on velocity stack restrictive?
I’ve got the itch for this look.
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1726968893.jpg Since the surface area of the screens is far less in relation to a K&N WaterShield filter, would the screens be restrictive enough to cause performance issues in a street only car? |
Great question, I’m curious as well. Actual dyno and AFR results would be nice

Gains will be negligible and you’ll be sucking in dust and dirt,

I seem to remember a recent thread where they actually found a higher HP with hats and air filters on.
Agree that the screens look awesome, but as mentioned above, you’ll be “feeding” your engine all kinds of dust and dirt which will cut your engine life short. |
Any time you have a smaller surface area like with the pictured screens, there will be a tendency to restrict. Also, it's tempting to think screens are freer flowing, but the screen wires occupy more space than you'd think. I believe screens usually have ~60% open area. They look cool, but overall you'll be better off with a proper filter.

We will see.....I'm using them on my 2.7 RS engine under construction.
I also have a more traditional option that I hope I don't have to use. Nothing worse than looking like everybody else. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1727017380.jpg |

Here’s an interesting look.
I wonder how he got the filters over the horns. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1727097172.jpg |
