Inspecting steel fuel lines

Is there a way to inspect the steel fuel lines in the tunnel to see if there’s any rust inside? Maybe pull something through and see how it looks?

(Outside looks fine)

Apple Cider Vinegar is for eating/drinking.

White Vinegar is cheap and works better.

Commercial grade white vinegar. Something like 25%.

Yes. If you have the right size endoscope camera, small enough to slide through the fuel line so you could do the visual inspection. Mine is about 8-mm OD. Maybe the endoscopes used in the operating room by medical surgeons is small enough to get through the fuel lines (?).

But why would you go to the trouble of doing this test? It does not make sense to me. You could replace them even with stainless steel lines under $200.

I got a gun cleaning kit and shoved a bore brush through the hard lines. The brush came out pretty much perfectly clean.

BTW, I didn’t see any way to get new tubing into the tunnel without removing the engine and that job is above my pay grade.

That's a great idea. I may consider that as well. Although my motor is out and my car has been sitting in the body shop for 3 years I think I may need to just replace it with a new one. How bad can it be if the motor is out?

White vinegar or even better phosphoric acid. Steel bottle brush and pull it back and forth. Pretty much will solve any issues.

Or a rifle barrel brush with extensions.

If you decide to do it, contact BoxterGT. (Len Cummings) he has some great solutions.

As a side note, I have seen some fuel lines rub against tunnel bulkhead edge and physically cut into the line, behind the hand brake. Not easy to inspect.

Get a spool of weed eater line. Flexible enough to get through and barbed so it will show debris.
