PS for genuine 911 content, they do mention the X50 turbo, and I can't beat a new mustang cobra or a new Camaro in my '88 in a straight line.

Funny! Camero owners hold some respect for it, but Porsche owners will try to put it down every chance they get. That makes no sence.

The sad fact is that the Pepperwagen will beat many of us in our *real* sportscars. A Cayenne Turbo does 0-62 mph in 5,6 secs. My Carrera will do 5,8.... Those 0,2 secs are important you know :)

Seriously what's going on with cars today? Sportscars are no longer faster, they just handle better...

That is a point that I have made in various Cayenne "discussions".
If the Porsche truck is as fast as a new Porsche sports car, it is not praise for the truck. it is a shortcoming in the sportscar.

Porsches seem to be getting bigger and heavier and more sophisticated, they are appealing to a wider market - a decision made by the beancounters and the marketing dept - not by drivers.

The last Porsche that truly spoke to me was the 993 range. The 996 is only acceptable to me in niches such as the turbo and GT3

The 996 GT3 & GT2 are ok with me, but the 996 Turbo is far too boring to look at. Imagine how people must have viewed a 911 Turbo in 1978. I think they must have been a bit more impressed than I am today by the 996 Turbo.



The Pepperwagen isn't our only "problem". What about the Mercedes S600? 0-62 mph in 4,8 secs. That's the same time as a 996-01 GT3. If they ever develop a computerised anti gravity system that'll make the 2,5 tons heavy S-class handle like a Lotus 7 Porsche and Ferrari will die out quickly.

I am a 964 owner and I must agree 100%. No offense to those who just dropped some serious coin on a new porsche, but I must say, IF it ain't air cooled, it ain't a Porsche. Even the GT3 or the Turbo send chills up my spine when their price tag flies by 100 grand and the car shares MANY parts with the wife's Boxter:eek:
