Are there different senders for different fuel tanks?
I recently replaced my fuel tank with the Dansk RS type tank that has the cutaway so the fuel pump can be mounted up forward.
I got a new sender and installed that at the same time. I put 10 gallons of gas in, but the almost empty light is still coming on. The light goes off occasionally while driving, but at rest, the light is on. Also, the gauge is shown just a shade over 1/4 tank. As I understand it, the new tank holds more than the original (16 gals), but I’d still think 5/8 of a tank should make the light go out. Should I have used a different sender? Fuel sender
I replaced my tank with the Dansk “ rally” tank that has a larger capacity than stock. I think my new tank is 100L and I was advised to buy a specific sender for that tank. I haven’t filled it with fuel yet so I’m not much help there. Did you remove the pin in the sender that’s installed during shipping? I’m assuming so because you’re showing a 1/4 tank, but thought I’d ask.
100L sender Part Number: 59-08078633 Regular sender Part Number: 59-08085830 * part numbers are both Dansk and for a 1975 911. YMMV |

Thanks for the tip. I pulled the sender just now to make sure I had removed the clip. I had.
I could hear the float moving up and down, so I put the sender back in until I can resolve the problem. Now it works! Go figure... I wonder how long this will last, since I’m guessing the float will get stuck again for some unclear reason. By the way, the tank is 12” deep where the sender goes in and there’s 6” of gas in the tank. The sender is 11” long. The gauge is reading 1/2 tank. The sender I have says Classic Line. Is there possibly a better one to be had? |
