Any body ever straightened a bent spindle?

I just got my '74 back together after a full teardown, rid of all rust, body mod's and paint. On initial setup I noticed a lot of negative camber on the front left. All other corners align good but I can't get less than -2.7* on the front left. I'm thinking I have a bent spindle on that strut. Anybody ever straightened one maybe with a jig and a press or forget it and search for a good one? Running Koni struts 3.5 spacing.
Thanks in advance to the knowledge base.
- Kevin

Not saying it's not possible, but I'd imagine a bent spindle would drive quite a gallop in your step. Does the wheel spin true off the ground? Any vibrations?

You sure is a bent spindle and not a bad front pan replacement?

I would start with a known perfect spindle.

If you can't align it you know what is next.

The wheel spins true and no vibrations. The very front of the pan was replaced but not the rear mounting points and a jig was used. those measurements checked out. Thanks for the reply, Kevin.

Maybe the spindle assembly has come loose on the strut, or the strut itself is bent, but those are Bilstein problems and I don't know if those apply on the Koni.

Pull the wheel and use a precision straightedge, thinking you have a bent spindle and having one are two different things.

Agree with David. I could see the spindle being knocked loose off the tube or the tube itself bending before the spindle being bent.

OK makes sense I'll tear it down and look more at the tube and the spindle connection. Thanks again for your thoughts.

It can be done but it's expensive. In my case it was a solid Dexter axle on a trailer. Whole axle had to come off, welded on. Warranty issue, Dexter was great BTW. Cheaper too with the warranty axle. I got my 3.5's from Chuck at ER, spendy. Check out the KW thread here for another option.

Elephant Racing welds gussets between the spindle and tube to prevent sagging of the spindle. Don't know if that can be done after-the-fact. Might want to mic the spindle journals to see if it would be worth the effort.

Bending of the front strut tube and spindle is not uncommon.

I had this problem on the passenger side of my car with the Boge front struts. The strut tube was bent, and I think the spindle was bent a little too. I was able to straighten it in my hydraulic press.

Straighten the tube and reinforce. If it bent once it'll bend again.

I had a friend kink a tube on a rally. It was three degrees of camber after the pothole and probably ten after he nursed it to the hotel that night. Needless to say it was trailered home.

Possible to straighten, yes, with a press. You can measure left and right strut by measuring between brake disc and strut housing to check the difference or you have a problem elsewhere. It's pretty common for the struts to 'kink' or bend just above the spindle.

Good to know others have tried this.

Thank you all for your help!

There are so many things that can cause this, inner strut arm busing, bent tie rod end, bent strut.

Jack up car and move wheel side to side and top to bottom, to see if its loose.
