HELP smokey...sometimes???

My 86 carrera has 85K miles on it. I get smoke (white-ish) from the exhaust pipe on occasion. Most of the time it is fine. Sometimes after idling at a stop light it starts smoking. Never under acceleration only when idling. It also does it sometime on warm up. If I let it set in my driveway for 60sec or so before leaving it will start smoking until it is under load. Other than that, it runs fine. Always starts up and never has loss of power.

Any ideas? My wrench said the compression is fine and he didn’t have any suggestions…

Mine has similar behavior, but it's pretty random also. It'll smoke sometimes when I idle a while, especially in hot weather, but for the most part it's a real clean running machine. The technician who has worked on the car for 15 years prior to my ownership says it's done this sporatically for years, but it has great compression and runs really strong at 136,000 miles. The head temp sensor was replaced just before I got it because it was the suspected cause, but it still smokes every so often. I've accepted it as a quirk, at least for the time being.

Its mostly likely bad intake valve stem seals but bad rings can also cause the same problem.

The higher vacuume of idle sucks oil by the valve stem or the rings and it shows after a while.

It may be embarassing or pesky, but if the vehile runs strong and clean at all other times it won't hurt anything.
