Pelican PartsWebsite (Parts, not Forums)

I couldn’t find a place that made sense to post.

I think the site needs some SERIOUS work. From the point of login it is clunky. Every time I search for something, I have problems with their results. Search most anything and you get totally unrelated parts very high in the search results. The part you want is not necessarily at the top. A new one was off a topic of another post on URO window seals. 911-541-225-03. I get four seals, none of them URO, and in the post I was referring to guided me to the URO version. The part number had a prefix of URO to the number and their search engine didn’t include or see (URO-911-541-225-03) when searching for (911-541-225-03).

When searching for parts in past orders one has to laboriously look at each order. Why not have a search field to search all the parts from you orders and giving you the data of order number, date, price, ect?

Return form, which is a form filler pdf, was built is some oddball graphics program, has a root size of four times an 8-1/2” x 11”. The tab progression is all over the place. A properly built form would tab to the next cell left to right. When inputting data, one should enter across the page with the data about each part. Not jump around the page. The worst thing is after filling in the form, it doesn’t print what data you inputed. It doubles over the top of your inputs.5

Before I retired, used to build forms once in a while for my company. I had some time so I made some fixes so that it was much more functional. In a complaint, sent to the supreme leader, he was cordial and receptive. It was handed off to a worker bee but it never was loaded to their site. Here I fixed their form and they deep six the work. WTF, it doesn’t take a Rocket Scientist to check for malicious threats on the form snd upload. I know, I know, no big deal, but this is what turns me off about the website.

The simple things to fix.

1. Put a clear the search field “X” in the search box for the cellphone app.

2. Add search all my orders capability.

3. Fix the algorithm to improve the search results. If I was searching for axle retainer plate, why is the first line return item a car lift?

4. Work on the prices. Sometimes Rock Auto is 30% cheaper.

Fill in the data below the part description.

I could go on.

Me thinks the person doing this is not the right person to do the website. I see websites that are spectacular.

Maybe someone from our host is monitoring and can reply. I have spoken via chats and reviews and they say they are working on it.

The site is better than it used to be. Still sort of sucky for prices and functionality. I don’t think the company that ownes pelican cares that much as long as people keep buying. The forum is loaded with scammers who constantly steal from the members here. Also not a concern of the parent company.

They were bought by a private equity company a few years back. That pretty much explains everything wrong with Pelican and also on a much larger level, the world.

Search engine alone must be losing money for them.

The parts side of the business is the worst website I've ever seen. When Wayne ran the place it was easy to use and accurate. Now it's one big labyrinth of harassment. Only use it when I have no choice (seldom).

Maybe should mention that rock auto sells the seal for $44.79, not $66.00…

Hi everyone,

Thank you so much for the feedback. I've passed this information onto our tech team so we can address these complaints in the future to help us continue to fine-tune our website.

The Pelican Parts site is constantly evolving and growing to allow you to easily find the parts you need without a hassle and our team is always finding ways to improve our ordering (and return) system to for less headaches.

If you need assistance with a particular part number or item you can always contact us and one of our customer service experts will help you try to locate it.

I used to feel somewhat obligated to shop on Pelican Parts for needs. The past few years I would say I have purchased in above average quantities. Lucky for Pelican the parts have been available and have shipped promptly. They are not the only place I have purchased. I have said all of this to say I agree with the OP. The pelican parts search is crap. I also realize this is a business and you tend to fix only what is needed. But..... this is a web based business, for the most part..... You should listen to your customer base before we go elsewhere.

That would be inappropriate on Pelican's board, which I find very useful, entertaining, and free. All the usual suspects advertise in Panorama and Excellence.

At least we have the eyes looking at posts such as this. It’s not a revolt as such, just food for thought.

I don’t think it would cost that much to fix the website.

The big question is how much is it costing Pelican in lost sales not to fix it?

I haven't purchased anything on here in years, the website sucks and the prices aren't competitive so they've lost my business and aren't doing anything to earn it back.

Use Google search and include Pelican Parts in the string - that will usually return the results you need. Honestly I don't find Pelican's prices much worse than most others and appreciate that, alongside the OEM part, they list options for Aftermarket and OER (Original Equipment Replacement).

I've had an annoying problem for months. I sent it to pelican but never got a response. My car, 1980 SC Targa, will usually resolve to a BMW M5 when I click on it. I'll have to delete it and start over. I'm using firefox as my browser.

Same here. Noticed if for quite some time.
Cookie or something gets stale, regardless of the stored car icon, and defaults to M5.

Mine reverts to a 80's MB that I have never owned but once looked up a part for an employee....

I always have better results when i search for the part in google and add "siteelicanparts.com" to the end of the search phrase.

I think they use Klevu for their search results provider and it might not be as fine tuned as it could be. Making your own search platform with SOLR isn't an easy endeavor.
