Hi
I'm on the way to buy a 72 S The seller tells me he's made an upgrade : 2.4 to 2.7 carrera engine May you give me the 2.7 carrera engine numbers if possible or tell me the difference that can be seen from the outside to check if it's a 2.4 S or a 2.7 carrera engine many thanks best regards Philippe |

Buy them, sell them

2.7 Carrera (RS) MFI engines are designated 911/83. They have a red shroud, too.
Sounds like it could be good fun!

Wayne,
The serial # for the 911/83 engine in my '74 Carrera 2.7 is 6641184. What's with that? Matt Holcomb MFIWDP PRVC BOHICA 1974 911 Carrera 2.7 RoW 1974 Ford Falcon GT coupe Dedicated Homepage Engine Rebuild Homepage Porsche Owners Gallery Profile Pelican Gallery Profile |

That looks correct to me Matt.
6 (six cylinder), 6 (carrera), 4 (1974) 1184 (seq.#) 665xxxx would be a 75' Carrera motor. 663xxxx should be a 73' Carrera motor. The number 6133001 that Wayne shows would be a 73' T CIS motor. Also Phillipe. Sometimes when people say they upgraded to a Carrera motor they mean that they took their current motor and rebuilt it to Carrera specs. If that's the case then the motor would have a serial number like 632xxxx. Meaning a 72' S motor. The type number would be 911/53. Lifting the engine lid the motors look identical. Looking underneath the car the cylinders would look larger on the Carrera motor. Numbers, however, are the best way to tell.
