Clutch adjustment time?
How do you know when it's time to adjust the clutch? My clutch engages at less than 1" from the floor. I also sometimes have a hard time getting it into first gear at a stop light. Second is sometimes a bear too, but I assume that is just the good old 915 at work. What is the proper travel distance when the clutch should engage?

Yes it is adjustment time. Perhaps its only the cable and mechanism that needs to be adjusted, but if its gone that far just from clutch wear then you may soon be due for a clutch replacment too.

Start with the clutch cable. Replace it (for about $50) and while doing so take a look at the bushing where the cable attaches to the clutch arm of your pedal assembly. If this bushing is warn (mine was warn all the way through), replace it. Ensure that you adjust the bowden cable correctly, or you'll get alot of clutch shudder. There's posts in this forumn which explain how to do it. You'll be amazed at how the clutch feels after replacing the cable.

Make sure you have only 1mm of gap at the cluch end of the cable. Adjust this before you buy anything. Good luck, Bill.

Bill's right, I was assuming that you had already gone thru Wayne's book and adjusted the little arm to the 1mm spec that Bill mentioned. Do his first
