Need help with charging system '69 911
My 69 911 is finally back together and running, I am having trouble with the charging system.
The voltage regulator may be the problem as the alternator is new. This car has the original factory external voltage regulator. My red alternator light is ON when the engine is running. The input side measures .7 volts with the key on and also with the car running. THe output side is also .7 volts with the car running. If I put 12 volts into the input side of the voltage regulator I see the Alternator light go out and hear the alternator engage and the engine slows. Would seem there is not enough voltage coming to the regualtor or am I wrong? Help would be appreciated.

Sounds like your alternator, new doesn’t always mean it’s good or you have something hooked up incorrectly at the alternator. Should be putting out 14 ish volts at alternator.

I ordered a new voltage regulator, to see if thats it, the original one is 60 year old so best to not take a chance anyway.
