Seasonal Price Fluctuations??
For you guys that have been around p-cars longer than me (you old men!) I was wondering if there is any truth to the story that prices are higher in the Spring than they are in the Fall - particularly here in the Midwest and Northeast? Does this apply to all sports car, or just the cabriolets? Is there some truth to this, or is it urban myth?
I was thinking about it when I saw the guy from Atlanta that got $14k for his '87 Cab on eBay in Atlanta - that was a deal!!

I think there's truth to it. at least here in the northern climate. More poeple are thinking about buying in the spring, and the owners are less inclined to sell because they're using and enjoying their car.
probably less people interested in buying in the fall because they'll just have to put it in the garage. I bought mine in November and got a deal. |

The internet has flattened out the seasonal adjustments and that guy in Atlanta with the nice white cab did not get his reserve met.

Painful!
That was a good deal for the buyer on that '87 Cab. Tough break for the seller...

Ves,
Yea thats cheap... but one thing I have learned about Ebay Motors is that a lot of the transactions never go through. I had high bidders on some of the cars I have sold come up with all sorts or interesting excuses or offers even after they won the auction. One guy tried to tell me his 951 was worth X and he'd make the difference from X to his bid in cash. Its good ( or bad in this case ) to note where things appear to trade but dont assume they all go through.

I think the same holds true for motorcycles, RVs, horses, or anything considered seasonal. The guy that sold the Cab on ebay is a Hummer dealer, so I doubt he took a big hit if at all. Somebody probable traded it in for about what he let it go for, I can't imagine a car dealer would let his bottom line slide. Besides, he's moving on to a 930, probable wants to find a good fall time deal.
