1987 Carrera 3.2 Very Rough Acceleration

The car starts fine and settles into a solid idle. When you try to accelerate, the engine falls flat on its face, might 'catch' a bit, and will run at wide open throttle. Thought it might be a bad gas situation and drained the tank, refilled it with fresh fuel, new fuel filterand an additive and the performance remained the same.

Any thoughts on where to look? DME relay? Injectors clogged? Air leak after the MAF?

Thanks!

Not a lot to go on here. This came on suddenly?
When you say accelerate, you mean under heavy load like uphill?
And does it really stop stumbling at wide open throttle?

I had a similar issue. Turned out to be one of the breather hoses after the air flow meter.

Hard to see back there - I ran a smoke test to find the bad hose.

Hope that helps.

Sounds like an air leak. Tighten down all your intake runner bolts. I believe 18 foot pounds. They do get loose over time. Happened to me. I bet one is loose for a certain cylinder. Check them after you check all the other hoses first.

All of the above also; Check the small bore pipes going to the fuel regulator, and damper at the rear of the engine, if you get a vacuum leak there, it can cause the symptoms you have too.
Trust me, I know!
