Dash board repaint

I posted this on the paint forum but didn’t get a reply so I thought I would ask you.

I am going to refresh my black dash board in my 1974 911. It has gotten some scratches around the switches, etc. I think mostly from the ignition key.

- Do I need to use 2k rattle can paint or is regular spray paint durable enough?
- Should I go flat or satin? I assume gloss is too shiny.

Thanks Rob

Satin Black. Not sure what is 2K but any high quality Satin Black will work. I'd suggest SEM https://semproducts.com/product/trim-black/black for metal areas and for the vinyl use https://semproducts.com/product/color-coattm-aerosols/15243

Pretty easy job and I find these paints come out best.

Top Dash is new but all other dash parts and door tops have been painted.

w/SEM

Thanks for your insights CBA. Nice looking interior. I too have used the vinyl paints with success. Haven’t used the trim paint. The 2k refers to paint that has harder in it. Pretty cool application where the hardner is inside the can in a permeable bladder. You puncture the bladder and the hardener is then mixed with the paint.

Don't need the 2K . . the SEM or Eastwood satin black are both excellent products. Clean the area completely with a wax and grease remover before paint. For best adhesion scuff with 600 grit before paint then degrease again. Can not get it too clean before paint, most adhesion problems are due to improper prep.
